WRVS4400N – slow router

Howdy!

I just got upgraded to the VDSL service of my ISP (branded it “TurboDSL”) but now I tried swedish “bredbandskollen” (webbased tool for measuring the access speed of the broadband). The service should offer up to 20-40 Mbit/s downstream and some 10Mbit/s upstream. I reached a measly 8Mbit/s on the downlink. This is total crap of course!

The guy from the ISP reached 35/8 to the modem, and I did close to that on the inside directly to the modem. The front panel told me that it had 100Mbit/s to the modem (on the WAN port)  and 1Gb/s on all the LAN ports. So no failed negotiations, no obsolete 10Mbit/s gear connected that could be a reason for going down to the common denominator.

Reading up on several forums, I did find the answer: The constraint is the IPS (Intrusion Protection System)

Ticking it off I suddenly had the 35Mbit/s downlink I was aiming for … I am aware that this is lowering the shields quite a bit, but I simply cannot pay for an upgrade that a piece of gear in my LAN takes the heat out of…

Is this an option?

  1. You are my Hero… I upgrade to Comcast Blast which is 22/5 w/ Powerboost 30/7. I was only getting 12/2 sometimes 13/3 Needless to say after pointless calls to Comcast and searching like crazy I disable IPS even knowing that all the setting was disable and poof. I am at 23/8 sometimes 27/7. Thanks Hope this helps allot of others.
