Howdy!<\/p>\n

I just got upgraded to the VDSL service of my ISP (branded it “TurboDSL”) but now I tried swedish “bredbandskollen” (webbased tool for measuring the access speed of the broadband). The service should offer up to 20-40 Mbit\/s downstream and some 10Mbit\/s upstream. I reached a measly 8Mbit\/s on the downlink. This is total crap of course!<\/p>\n

The guy from the ISP reached 35\/8 to the modem, and I did close to that on the inside directly to the modem. The front panel told me that it had 100Mbit\/s to the modem (on the WAN port)\u00a0 and 1Gb\/s on all the LAN ports. So no failed negotiations, no obsolete 10Mbit\/s gear connected that could be a reason for going down to the common denominator.<\/p>\n

Reading up on several forums, I did find the answer: The constraint is the IPS (Intrusion Protection System)<\/p>\n

Ticking it off I suddenly had the 35Mbit\/s downlink I was aiming for … I am aware that this is lowering the shields quite a bit, but I simply cannot pay for an upgrade that a piece of gear in my LAN takes the heat out of…<\/p>\n
