Phone unlocking

Unlocking phones is a science of it’s own. There is a point in locking. Commercially the operators funds your mobile, and want to keep your traffic so that they get the money back. I am more in favour of set-ups where you pay monthly instalments on the phone during the committed period and get it unlocked, but there is commercial freedom and locking is one component in this that we need to live with.

Having said this; My wife lost a phone and now need a spare one to use until she can get one from the operator when the committed period is over. I have two handy;

Nokia 6680: Not the newest of Nokias, but still uses the BB5 type of locking. There is a BB5 unlocker coded by a guy named Dejan, but it takes a very special cable which I don’t have …

An LG U8130: I have found three different solutions
* Sircily All LGR U81xx Unlocker (Simple, coded in Delphi and with no docs what so ever)
* Speed_unlocker (SeTool2) – Looks really competent, or should I say messy and complex.
* Babes Unlocker 1.3.9 – Looks simple enough but again no docs, so you’re on your own. The good thing is that is checks the available COM ports, and can handle ports over COM9.

I seemingly have problems with the drivers as I get a blue screen whenever I use one of the programs and it talks over the serial port.

A guys called riadhtech says this over Babe Unlocker (a few typos fixed):
1) with your SIM in the phone launch babes.
2) close and open it again because sometimes it crashes.
3) select 8120
4) choose COM port
5) press unlock
6) press a little bit the power button on the phone
7) wait the message "unlocking ok" or "timeout" ( there is no difference )
8) disconnect the phone from the cable
9) Leave and restore the battery
10) turn on the phone
11) insert pin ( if you have it )
12) with your SIM in the phone digit this code *2945#*88110#
13) The press OK on both the points
14) go to MENU-9-0 and make both RESET CONFIGURATION and RESTORE CONFIGURATION.

If you don't reset and restore the phone will not unlock.
15) AND THAT'S ALL...

Now what i wonder is WHICH COM port? i see four of them! “LG Device Management Port”, “LG Obex Port”, “LG USB Data Modem” and “LG USB Modem”.

Edit: Found the installation CD and need to try to update the drivers. 3 Sweden kindly provide it
